  • Who is First Baptist Church?

We are a friendly family of believers in Jesus Christ. We preach the Gospel and believe God's Word, the Bible, is as reliable and relevant today as it has always been. Our worship is traditional in style and sincere in character. You'll find a warm welcome here!

First Baptist Church is an independent Baptist Church in association and fellowship with:

    • The Southern Aroostook Baptist Association

    • American Baptist Churches of Maine (ABCOM)

•American Baptist Churches of the United States of America (ABC-USA)

  • Originally established in 1852, First Baptist Church of Houlton has been proclaiming the life-changing Gospel of saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for nearly 170 years! In that time, 24 pastors have served the Lord here, and many hundreds of men and women, boys and girls have heard the Gospel, believed in Jesus, and have been baptized in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Our history is still being written, and we joyfully welcome all persons seeking to find and to know the God of the Bible, the God of Creation, the God made known to us through His Only Begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, to come and join us in writing the pages that are now open before us.

  • Our mission

We covenant with God to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, seeking always to grow in faith together and to serve God’s Kingdom throughout the world with joy, passion and prayer.

    Our Purpose

This church exists to give visible form to that faith and fellowship to which Christ has called God's people. We trust in the unmerited favor of God freely given, and in His promises as revealed through Jesus Christ, the Holy Scriptures and the Holy Spirit.

We seek to fulfill God's calling through corporate services of worship, programs of Christian education and nurture, proclamation of the Gospel by word and deed, recognition of diversity within the Body of Christ so that there be no division, and ministry to human need in the name of Christ.

We acknowledge ourselves to be a local manifestation of the universal church in and through which Jesus Christ continues to minister to the world by His Holy Spirit.

  • We believe that:

    • The Bible is inspired by the Spirit of God, that it is the supreme revelation of God's will for humanity, and is the only authority of faith and practice.

    • There is one God, the creator of heaven and earth, manifesting Himself in three persons, The Father, Son and Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory.

    • The Lord Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He is completely God and completely human, being "God manifest in the flesh." He lived a sinless life, and in His death, He made atonement for sin as a voluntary substitute in the sinner's place. He rose again bodily from the dead on the third day and ascended bodily to the right hand of God in Heaven where He now sits as our great High Priest making intercession to God for us. We believe in His second coming and that His coming will be personal, visible, bodily and imminent.

    • The Holy Spirit convinces the unbeliever of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment, and it is the Holy Spirit who regenerates, sanctifies, illuminates, guides, comforts and indwells those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

    • All humans are divinely created in the image of God; that He created them male and female. All have sinned, becoming guilty before God, thereby incurring physical and spiritual death.

    • The salvation of sinners is wholly of God's grace through the shed blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. Salvation is based upon repentance of sin, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and being born again through the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit.

    • The observance of two ordinances of 1) Baptism by immersion of the believer in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and 2) The Lord's Supper, are commanded in the Bible.

  • The ABC’s of Salvation

We believe God wants everyone to have a personal relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. In God’s loving plan to save us from our sin that separated us from Him and restore us to our original purpose in creation, God sent His Son to become the perfect human being that He might take our place in the punishment of our sin. Jesus willingly gave His life shedding His blood, dying on the cross and was raised from death to eternal life. All who believe in Jesus as their personal Savior will be forgiven of all sin and granted God’s eternal life. It is as easy as ABC.

A—acknowledge your sin and need of salvation. (Romans 3:23; 6:23)

B—believe that Jesus is the only one God sent who can save you. (Acts 4:12; 16:31)

C—confess your sin to God and ask His forgiveness (1 John 1:9) and confess your faith in Jesus Christ. (Romans 10:9-10)
